Home Development Process
To create your site, we need from you the content for the site. Essentially every word, image and graphic in the site is going to have to be provided, created or purchased.
All the content should be in our hands, or been determined where it's coming from, before we go to work on the site.
Use the list of pages arrived at in the development process as a framework for determining what you need.
Below is a guide to creating and assembling your content.
Text
Title of each page – what you will see in the title bar of your Web browser.
Text for each page, major and minor headlines, and body text
Same content needed for any subpages
Provide the complete version of the text that should appear on the page. Minor changes are an expected part of the process, but try and be as complete as possible.
Text can be supplied in any common format, such as Word or plain text. Pasting text into an Email message is not recommended. It's better to attach a file, preferably zipped up.
Documents that are available only in hard copy can be scanned with character recognition software.
Also supply any documents that will be displayed on the site as-is, or available for download.
We will be happy to contact your printer or advertising agency to obtain material they may have on file.
Images & graphics
In order to create a great visual presentation for you, we like to create the graphic elements.
If you have existing logos, designs, etc., that are to be used, please obtain original digital file for us. Otherwise as close to reproduction quality art work for scanning is desired.
Copies of your existing printed material – business cards, stationary, brochures and ads – are helpful for maintaining your existing look.
Photographs: Ideally provide original, unprocessed digital camera images, or negatives.
If necessary, prints can be scanned.
If you need images, we can often obtain them from stock image libraries.
On request, we will take original photographs, or arrange to have them taken.
To send photos: Create a CD if you have a large number of images. It's also possible to email images. Ideally zip them up in an archive before sending. Uploading by FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is an option. Contact us for FTP information.
Web forms
We need to know exactly what information you need to collect with forms. Name, address, phone, email, question, etc.
List information in each form that that visitors are required to provide. ie Form will not submit without it.
Provide Email address(es) that the submitted form information is to be sent
Email
If you arranged hosting through us, we will set up your various email accouns.
In our hosting account control panel it's also possible to set up generic Email addresses such as
This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
,
This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
etc. These are set to so messages are transferred to real accounts, which you would like to keep private.
Search engine positioning
As part of getting your site known on the Internet, we will insert Meta keywords and a description into your home page.
Supply a sentence or two that describes your company or organization, highlighting the services and products you provide, plus identify your market area.
Also create a separate list of keywords that includes various combinations of your company or organization name, products or services, location, industry, and common misspellings. Prioritize the keyword list.
Again, brochures and ads will help us to tailor the list for you.
